4-Week Fibermaxxing Plan
Tell us roughly how much fiber you eat now. Get a week-by-week plan with the exact foods to add, so you reach your target without the bloating.
That is a big weekly jump. A longer ramp-up (6 or 8 weeks) will be easier on your gut.
How the plan works
The plan splits the gap between what you eat now and your target into equal weekly steps. Each week it adds common, easy-to-find foods whose fiber adds up to that step, starting with gentle ones like chia, berries and oats and bringing in beans and lentils once your gut has had time to adjust. Fiber amounts come from USDA data.
Keep everything you added in earlier weeks. If a week feels uncomfortable, repeat it before moving on.
Check with a doctor first if
you have IBS, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, a history of bowel obstruction, or you have been told to follow a low-fiber or low-FODMAP diet.
FAQ
How fast should I increase fiber?
Most dietitians suggest adding fiber gradually over a few weeks rather than overnight. A few extra grams a day each week gives your gut bacteria time to adjust and keeps gas and bloating mild.
Why does more fiber cause gas at first?
Gut bacteria ferment fiber and produce gas as a by-product. As your intake rises steadily, your gut adapts and the effect usually fades.
Do I need to drink more water with more fiber?
Yes. Fiber holds water. Drinking enough helps it move through your gut and prevents constipation when you eat more of it.
